"Left Traverse City this morning for the official race start. Corky Coker was the official starter. All of the city came to flag us off, even the Governor. Temperature was 57, I believe I have been taking my vacations in the wrong place! Northern Michigan is off the charts beautiful! We had lunch in St. (IG-nace) it is too beautiful for words, again the entire city showed up to welcome us. It was like Mardi Gras  in New Orleans but no one was drunk! We crossed over the Mackinac bridge (Lake Michigan on the left Lake Huron on the right water was blue green like the Caribbean, it was so cool we had to raise the windows! We are in Sault Saint Marie tonight and will depart at 8:03 et. Ford and I have been signing autographs all day in the program for the crowds, not sure we can talk to you guys in Longview any longer!"
